DNC Eco Tours: Call to Plan

October 10, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

Join us at a World Cafe stye event. Next year’s 2020 Democratic convention gives us an exciting opportunity to both cajole and push political and institutional leaderships to further the cause of both Green and Blue Milwuakee. The 2012 Democratic convention in Charlotte, VA., had an EcoVillage, and both Charlotte and 2016 Philadephia convention set energy standards for themselves. As the ECO Village concept faces large obstacles because of security, lets us gather to create Eco Tours.

We hope that we could encourage the City, County and Democratic leadership to set energy efficiency standards for the staging of the convention, request Fiserv Forum to run an SUP (Single Use Plastic)-Free event (they’ve done it before, so they said it would be easy — if the Dems would request it ), AND create EcoTours! Eco Tours of Milwaukee would show off what we’ve done for both water (Blue) initiatives and Green initiatives, like community gardens, pocket parks, the RiverWalk, Home Grown, Victory Garden Initiatives, Clean Wisconsin, Watermarks, Green Schools of Milwaukee Consortium/Reflo, School of Fresh Water Sciences, The Global Water Center, and others.

The City of Milwaukee, its ECO team (Environmental Collaboration Office) and The Water Council and NGO’s have already done much, but is not well known to our own City residents. An effort to get the convention to use our Blue/Green concept as one of their brands could not only appeal to our business and political leaders as a way to advertise how much we’ve done, but also raise the consciousness of our own residents about the necessity of addressing environment and climate change.

Our efforts to help create an energy conscious Blue Green brand with Energy saving goals, a SUP-Free example and a really interesting City ECO tours, could could be a first stage launch for us here into a more visible and permanent orbit, even after the Convention has left and faded.

Join us for an hour or two to join the conversation that will bring this vision to a reality.
