Community Voices | Meg McKenna | VISIT Milwaukee

Why did you sign up as a host for On the Table MKE?

VISIT Milwaukee supports the great work of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and we want to be good partners in the community. We wanted to take advantage of that opportunity to talk about a question that we feel is important to the continued growth of Milwaukee’s tourism economy.

How do you think On the Table MKE can benefit your organization?

I think it is an opportunity for us to dialogue with key community stakeholders and locals, which is an important echo chamber for VISIT Milwaukee. Local perceptions and insights are key to our authenticity as the driving force behind tourism in the greater Milwaukee area.

What topic do you plan on bringing to the table?

Some of the suburbs in the greater Milwaukee area don’t always identify with Milwaukee’s brand, or seek to distance themselves from it. Why is that? Can it be changed? Does it matter?

What actionable steps do you hope will come from this conversation?

What I learn and hear from other people would be something I carry forward in my conversations back to my colleagues here at VISIT Milwaukee, and I would also use these insights in the development work and regional work I do at VISIT Milwaukee.

What project(s) are you currently working on?
I build relationships throughout the region around tourism as an economic strategy for the businesses, as well as the good that the economic impact has for residents here. I connect our area companies with the mission of VISIT Milwaukee on a regional basis.
